From Sylvan Avenue, you can access the Rockefeller Lookout by getting on the Palisades Interstate Parkway north to the sign for the lookout which is a few miles north. You will be treated to a dramatic landscape of cliffs overlooking the Hudson with the Spuyte and Duyvalle directly across the river. That is where the Harlem River spills into the Hudson with treacherous currents. But the lookout is only icing on the cake. The Long Path hiking trail goes right past here and we took it along the top of the Palisades, stopping here and there along the trail to peer over the cliffs and get a few pictures on this blustery fall day. The path is well worn and easy going slopes give you a glow. You will see heavy stonework which is the remains of mansions with breathtaking views of over a hundred years ago. Bear in mind you are in a dangerous place. Sheer drops of hundreds of feet are just off the trail. And the Palisades Interstate Parkway with cars hissing and roaring by is on the other side
