This bakery makes quality items. But the wait is just too long. At times, you wait 35+ minutes to be told they're completely out of sourdough bread. I understand they're only open twice a week- but they should implement a system where customers waiting online already for an extensive amount of time know there's no more sourdough so they can leave, rather than waste another 20 minutes waiting. There are people leaving with 6 loaves and everyone else waiting to be told they're sold out... there has to be better way due to the limited days. Wish the system was better.

I decided to stop by today after seeing they were open, figuring it was still early and I probably wouldn't have to wait too long. Boy, was I wrong. The line was already pretty long, and the wait ended up reaching about an hour. Everyone seemed perfectly okay with waiting, and I even spoke with a few people on line who all said it was worth the wait. I waited patiently, but by the time it was finally my turn to order, practically everything was already sold out. Sadly, I missed out on a lot of the options, but I did manage to get the peanut butter and jelly cookies, a chocolate chip cookie, and a focaccia. I have to say, everything I tried was absolutely delicious! Now I completely understand why the line was so long and why they sell out so quickly. I'd definitely come back and try some of the other options assuming I can actually get there early enough next time.

Living Bread in Rutherford is honestly a little overhyped, in my opinion. We drove about 30 minutes to get there and then waited in line, so by the time we finally got our bread, the expectations were pretty high.

Unfortunately, the food just didn't live up to the hype for us. Fougasse was underwhelming, and olives tasted off to me. Sourdough's crust actually scratched the roof of my mouth - didn't like it.

I also understand that the limited hours, long lines, and the possibility of things selling out are part of their small-bakery model, but after making the drive and waiting, I expected the bread to be truly exceptional. For us, it simply wasn't.

And, perhaps unfairly, even the name and overall branding gave me a bit of a "Liv Breads" imitation vibe. I was expecting something distinctive and memorable, but the experience felt more hyped than extraordinary.

Never again.

Absolutely amazing sourdough! Olive fougase and the focaccias are shining stars! The cardamom buns are the best-kept secret and top sweet they produce, but (unfortunately) it rarely makes appearances on the weekly menu in 2026. You might go 2 or 3 months between cardamom bun availability.
